A show not so regular...

Hey guys, Jasper here from ISYS100 Trio to do another television show review for our blog. The television show I will be reviewing today is the episode, Bad Kiss, from the Regular Show.

Show background information

Regular Show is an animated television series which follows the many adventures of Mordecai, a blue jay, and his best friend Rigby, a raccoon. They both work as groundskeepers at a city park where they usually slack off and also interact with their co-workers Skips, Muscle man, Hi-Five Ghost, Pops and their boss, Benson.

Episode summary

The episode starts off with Mordecai, Rigby, Margaret and Eileen finishing a movie and heading back to the park house to get 'Morde-shakes'. Before entering the house, Mordecai forgets his wallet and goes back to the car to look for it and Margaret goes to help. As they look for it they lock eyes and start to kiss. It is until Margaret stops their kiss as she says Mordecai has bad breath. Feeling embarrassed, Mordecai gets out of the car and rushes into the house as whilst grabbing Rigby.

Mordecai wishes that he could take it back as it was his first kiss with Margaret. Rigby reveals that he has a time machine and they plan to go back to the past where they would give the past Mordecai mints .

Going back two hours, they try to give the past Mordecai mints in the movies but it doesn't succeed. They then decide to go back and stop the past Mordecai buying a chilli dog, but even though they succeed, the past Mordecai still eats the chilli dog after it falls onto the ground (five-second rule).

As a final attempt they travel back to the morning but accidentally bring the past Mordecai back to the present time. Explaining to the past Mordecai about the dilemma, he doesn't believe he would make the same mistake as the present Mordecai and takes the time machine to take him back to the morning.

Knowing that the time machine is now gone, Mordecai states that he now has to live with his bad kiss. Rigby however goes away and brings back another similar time machine which he had bought when he went back two months when he first bought the time machine. Determined to keep trying to fix his first kiss, they travel back again to the morning where they encounter the past Mordecai who believes they are trying to stop him from kissing Margaret. This starts a chase where they travel through various places that are in other episodes of the Regular Show. As a plan to fix his kiss they say that 11:55 is the time which Mordecai kisses Margaret. Past Mordecai travels to that time and replaces his 11:55 self. The present Mordecai and Rigby travel to that time and are able to capture and take back the past Mordecai back to the present. They simultaneously destroy both time machines and the past Mordecai disappears from the future. With Mordecai and Margaret about to kiss, Mordecai remembers that he actually didn't take any mints and just says that he found his wallet.

TL;DR

Mordecai and Margaret finally share a kiss, but it is cut short due to mordecai’s bad breath. Extremely embarrassed, he and rigby go back in time to fix things

My thoughts

Even though I found this episode to be lacking in action and mischief that often happens in most episodes, I still found the attempts of Mordecai and Rigby amusing as they were trying to change an event which, I guess would be important to some people. I would say that this episode aimed to express the importance of some first experiences and feel that the show was able to do it with subtlety and humour. I would recommend watching Regular Show if you like animation shows that have ridiculous events and lots of humour.
