Hey guys, Jasper here from ISYS100 Trio to do another television show review for our blog. The television show I will be reviewing today is an episode from Batman the Brave and the Bold. There is also a TL;DR just for those who don't like reading.

Episode Summary

Battle of the Superheroes is an episode where it starts off with Batman arriving in metropolis to help Superman. Soon enough the pair foil Lex Luthor’s robbery at a gem facility and Superman asks Batman to stick around so that they can work together.

Later on Toyman is seen robbing a bank but Superman is able to stop him from getting away. As usual there are reporters and Louis lane and Jimmy Olsen turn up to interview Superman. It should be noted that just before the robbery the two reporters are given gifts, embedded with some sort of red crystal, which they believe are from Superman himself. Wearing the new gifts Superman is exposed to the red crystal and changes behaviour. He now wishes to end Toyman’s life for good but just as Superman vaporises Toyman, Batman swoops in and gets Toyman out of the way. Not caring about his superhero morals, Superman then flies away. Superman then goes and creates trouble throughout Metropolis including blocking the sun on the beach, tying a knot in a bridge and placing a cat in a tree.

Batman decides to investigate Superman’s change in behaviour and collects the so called gifts that were given to the two reporters. Studying these gifts, Batman then finds out that the red crystal is actually red kryptonite.

Superman decides to make himself ‘King Superman’ of Metropolis and is seen demanding gifts from citizens. As this is happening Batman returns in an armoured Batsuit and battles it out with Superman. Finally Batman is bested and Superman is about to crush him, however Batman was delaying Superman’s exposure to the red kryptonite and Superman then becomes his original self. Batman explains that he was exposed to red kryptonite, however the only person who knew of this secret was Lex Luthor, who was supposed to be in jail.

Upon finding Lex Luthor he explains that Metropolis would have been at his mercy after Batman and Superman had finished battling. As this is not the case Lex Luther pulls out a ray gun and fires a beam at Batman who is knocked down and appears to be unconscious. Superman swipes the gun out of Lex Luthor’s hand but is then succumbed due to the green kryptonite in Lex Luthor’s ring. Surprisingly Superman gets back up and resists, as if the green kryptonite had no effect on him, and takes down Lex Luthor as well as removing his ring. It turns out that Batman and Superman had switched costumes and by doing so were able to foil Lex Luther.

TL;DR

Batman takes a working vacation in metropolis to help superman, but a friend becomes foe when the man of steel is exposed to red kryptonite, turning him into a power-hungry tyrant who brooks no disobedience.

 My Thoughts

I enjoyed this episode as I found it to be similar to the concept of the recent movie, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, where Batman fights against Superman. Although it is a cartoon I enjoy watching it as it is part of the DC comics universe and there is always a different story and adventure which includes Batman and his superhero counterparts. The occurrences of the events made sense as they carried over to another event and there was humour throughout the episode.

You can catch more adventures of Batman the Brave and the Bold at 12:30 pm every weekdays, and at 5:30 pm on Saturdays on channel 93/99.
