Hey guys, Jasper here from ISYS100 Trio to do another television show review for our blog. The television program I will be reviewing today is Good Game.

Show Description

Good Game is an Australian television gaming program, which reviews some of the latest and upcoming games released. The program is aimed at a more mature audience of gamers. Throughout the years, Good Game has had many different segments shown which cover various areas of the gaming world, but the main format of the show would always include ‘Name the game’ and two game reviews in each episode. The program begins with a segment called ‘Name the game’ where a short footage of a game is shown. Viewers then can guess the name of the game (as the title of the segment implies) and have until the end of the show when the game is revealed. The current hosts, Steven “Bajo” O’Donnell and Stephanie “Hex” Bendixsen, both review two games each episode, giving their views and thoughts about the game and then give the games a rating out of five stars. Apart from the regular episodes, they often have special episodes themed around a genre of a game or special events. Usually at the end of each year, the two hosts would reflect on the year and discuss some of their favourite games and games or designs they would like to see in the future.

Good Game also has other spin-off programs such as Good Game: Spawn Point (aimed at younger audiences), Good Game: Pocket Edition (a short episode summarising gaming news), Good Game Pocket (a online show where games are first looked at and game news discussed) and Good Game Well Played (a online show focusing on the e-sports side of gaming).

My Thoughts

I love watching Good Game as I am a gamer myself and like to keep up to date with the newest games being released. The episodes are informative and the hosts always make the program entertaining as they always joke about the negatives of each game. From watching Good Game you get to know the hosts over time as they share personal experiences and hobbies. For example "Bajo" drools over high resolution graphics, is a big fan of Sonic and both he and "Hex" love their cats. They also have skits from time to time which make the program even more hilarious.  I would highly recommend watching Good Game if you are a gamer as they have various shows suitable for a wide range of audiences, discussing different game types. Good Game also has a great connection with their audience as they have grown their community over the years through the use of social media. If you don’t have time to watch the television show (or their other spin-off shows) you can always watch the episodes and reviews either on their official website or on their YouTube channel. They also stream during the evenings through the Twitch streaming service, often playing a game and responding to user questions and suggestions brought up in the chat.

You can catch episodes of Good Game every week on Tuesdays, 8:30 pm on ABC2.
